🇺🇸 Burbank
Coral Cafe
Breakfast
This is a neighborhood breakfast spot in Burbank. I use to own a pizza place down the street and I ate a lot of breakfasts there. I also owned a home in Burbank in the 80’s. One night I had a bachelor party for a grade school friend. It was pretty wild with booze and a stripper. We had breakfast there the next morning, kind of hung over, and the bride to be found out about the party and threaten to call off the wedding. My friend was shitting bricks. Anyway, she got over it and they’ve been married almost 40 years. But I digress. Back to the Coral, good food and nice clean atmosphere. And good memories.

🇺🇸 Klamath Falls
Red Rooster Grill and Pub
Breakfast
Typical diner in front of the Days Inn in Klamath Falls. We stayed overnight and had breakfast before we continued our trip home. The food was good. The diner was old but it seemed in good shape. And clean. If they were to film a movie based in the 60’s this would be the place to use for the 60’s vibe.

🇺🇸 Coeur d'Alene
Wolf Lodge Inn Restaurant
American
I ask my brother-on-law where’s the best steakhouse in Coeur d’Aline. He says Wolf Lodge Inn but you need to make reservations a month in advance. I call anyway. “How many?” “6” “4:30 ok?” “Yeah, great” My cousin Mark lives nearby and he and his wife joined us. So we are at arguably the best steakhouse in Idaho and what do I order? Salmon! Mark looks at me like WTF? I’m not much of a steak eater. And let me tell you my plate was loaded with salmon. That was the most salmon I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. It was great. It came with a loaded baked potato. Everyone else raved about their steaks. Check out the picture of the menu for their selections. They also had a great selection of draft beers. Mostly all craft beers. The place was packed. It is located off the highway seemingly in the middle of nowhere. When Mark heard we were eating there he was stoked. He lives over an hour away in Spokane but couldn’t wait to join us. That’s what a great reputation will do for a business. So when you are in Coeur d’Aline this is a must stop on your bucket list.

🇺🇸 Sandpoint
Schweitzer
Pub Food
This is a little pub on Schweitzer Mountain. It is a cool place to drink beer. The food is another matter. It’s edible. The tots were really good. The pizza was basically cheese and Hunt’s tomato sauce. But we went up there for the view and recreation. Food was secondary. The bartender was really great with the service and very friendly.

Pack River Store
Diner
This place is located next to the Pack River, hence the name. People go upriver and float down and usually exit the river here. It is the perfect location because there are no other eating places around for miles. It is the ultimate eatery for locals. We stopped on our way out to Coeur d’aline. Pam’s brother lives nearby, where we are staying. I had the French toast. Pam had the chicken salad. What they do here is just bring you the food. Anything else you need you get up and go to the refrigerator and get it yourself. This place also serves as the general store in the area. The waitress comes by on occasion to check what you have and writes it down. By the way, the one waitress is tattooed from her neck to her feet. Just some useless information for you. Since this is an out of the way place you may never run by it. But if you do it has good food. It also has a nice patio facing the river. A good place to relax after a ride down the river.

🇺🇸 Hayden
Blue Plate Cafe
Breakfast Spot
Another breakfast/lunch restaurant just outside Coeur d’alene in Hayden, Idaho. These little mom and pop places are so cool with their local motif and flavor. I had the Swiss mushroom burger. Pam had the chicken salad sandwich with potato salad. A salad theme! As you can see they pile on the fries. The food was excellent. As usual with these little places they were very busy.

🇺🇸 Midvale
Country Coffee Cabin
Breakfast Spot
On our drive to Idaho we love to find these little eating places. This is a breakfast place with great atmosphere. The food was awesome. The French toast had nutmeg as a spice which made the food really tasty. I think this place use to be a house at one time years ago. You’ll have to look on the map to see exactly where it is, about an hour outside of Boise.

Dairy Queen Grill & Chill
Burger Joint
Dairy Queen was a little disappointing. I got the Flamethrower burger and it tasted funny. I did not like the chipotle Mayo they put on it. The shake was not very good either. The fries were great though. I’ll pass on this next time.

Fortune House Restaurant
Chinese
This place is in the shopping center where our martial arts gym is located. Pam and I practice Krav Maga twice a week and today was testing for our belts. We celebrated afterwards with our Sensei Kian who was also celebrating his birthday. It was a hard but fun day. The food was surprisingly great. Our gym is the House of Champions in Van Nuys. With all the crap today we need to acquire the skills so as not to be victims. As we get older we become targets for the criminal element. Don’t be a victim! Always be training and hard to kill.

Phil's Marina Cafe
Diner
This is a generic restaurant but in a good location next to a marina. The food was good, not great. I had the lasagna. It was ok. Pam had the snapper which she said was really good. Chris and Chelsey had the fish tacos which they loved. The desserts were also good. It was busy and loud, mostly because I was instigating with my 5 year old grandson. The last picture was a barge on the Mississippi. Had to throw that in for the ambiance.

🇺🇸 New Orleans
The Original French Market Restaurant and Bar
French Southwest
A cool restaurant in the French Quarter. It was a hot, humid day and we just decided to pop in here to cool down and get some water. The food looked good so we got a table. It took some time for a server to come over but once there the service was good. I had the salmon which was seasoned and tasty. Pam had the shrimp salad. I don’t remember what the three bowls were but I tasted each one and it was great. There was also a parade outside which added to the festive atmosphere of New Orleans.

The Ruby Slipper Cafe
AmericanSouthern
The Ruby Slipper is a popular breakfast place in New Orleans. It was very busy. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. It was worth it. I forgot to take a picture of the French toast bites because we ate them so fast. I had the chorizo omelette. Pam had the beignets, which are very popular here in New Orleans. By the way, I got 4 Aces in video poker at Harrah’s Casino downtown. It’s walking distance from the Ruby Slipper. My lucky day!!!

New Orleans Creole Cookery
Cajun/Creole
I’m a creature of habit. It’s hard for me to try new things. Never had creole before. But since I’m in New Orleans I’m going to give it a go. This place is two blocks off of Bourbon Street. It has a Louisiana feel to it. I had the Creole pasta with shrimp, sausage and chicken with penne pasta covered with the Creole sauce. It was great! Glad I tried it. Pam and Chelsey split the blackened redfish with heirloom potatoes and green beans. I’ve never seen purple potatoes before. Chris had the crablegs. It was a nice cool evening and an enjoyable meal.

Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt
Dessert Shop
This is a new fro-yo shop located in Valencia. It is owned by friends of mine, Mary & Tim Howard. It just opened on Memorial Day. It is located next door to the Wolf Creek restaurant. The place is clean, the employees nice and friendly and it is a nice design. I had the chocolate yogurt which is fantastic. You can add many toppings such as M&Ms and Reese’s pieces. They also serve specialty coffees which are delicious. If you know Tim and Mary they have been through a lot in the last 15 years. Tim had a major stroke and triple organ failure. He is one of the few to survive it. He eventually had to have both legs amputated below the knees. He also is paralyzed on his left side. He is one of the toughest guys I know and these infirmaries did not stop them from moving forward to start this new business. The three hours I was there they had a steady stream of customers. If that is any indication they will have a very successful and striving business.

Fatburger & Buffalo's Express
Burger Joint
This burger place is right near our gym. We stopped in for lunch. I had the grilled chicken and Pam had the burger. They both were really good. The chili cheese fries were also good. This place used to be an IMBurger place but the whole franchise was a scam. The franchisor set it up as a pyramid scheme. He took off with all their money and left them with no support. Most went bankrupt. Fatburger picked up the pieces of this location. It’s a new building but not in a great part of town. It’s part industrial area and older neighborhoods. The parking lot is small. They share it with a Mediterranean restaurant and a Baskin-Robbins. Also there are businesses upstairs so the lot can fill up fast. I hope they do well. By the way, the chocolate shake was awesome.

Joe's Cafe
Breakfast
We’ve been wanting to try this place. This is on the main drag in Granada Hills. Every time we go by there they have a long line. You can get on the waiting list through their website, so that is what we did. Once we arrived we were seated right away. Pam had the short stack. She said it was the best pancakes she has had in a long time. I had the omelette with chorizo and cheese. You can pick up to three items with the omelette. And the food came out fast. If you like loud music sit inside. We sat out on the patio because we’re old. These kids with their music! Otherwise I would highly recommend it.

Musso & Frank Grill
Steakhouses
We had a birthday dinner at the famous Musso & Frank in Hollywood. This was Charlie Chaplin’s favorite restaurant. He would race Douglas Fairbanks down the dirt road of Hollywood Blvd. on their horses and the loser bought dinner. Cary Grant, Bogie & Bacall, Joe & Marilyn, Liz Taylor, Gary Cooper & Greta Garbo were just a few of the many famous actors that hung out there. Screenplays by F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, T.S. Eliot were written over drinks at the bar. Raymond Chandler wrote several chapters of “ The Big Sleep” in the back room. Just ask the waiters in the red tux’s and the will be happy to give you the history of the place. But that aside the food was great. Sliced sourdough bread is brought to the table. The filet mignon is Grade A. I had the grilled swordfish which was the awesome. My wife had the chicken fettuccini Alfredo. She said it was delicious. You will not be disappointed in the food. And the atmosphere almost brings you back to film noir 40’s. The wall paper is still the original. The only negative is the place is really loud. But it was packed. Afterwards you can walk Hollywood Blvd and check out the stars. But be careful because there is an eclectic mix of people and some that aren’t so nice. Keep your head up and stay safe.

Los Toros Mexican Restaurant
Mexican
Haven’t been to Los Toros since before the pandemic. When we arrived we noticed that they constructed a new patio. It is brand new, only three months. We ate out there this time. If you’ve been inside it is like a maze since the restaurant is a connection of three buildings that they would take over when the previous business closed. Anyway the food is good but the service is slow. Since the end of the pandemic it’s been hard for restaurants to find good help so you get sub-par service. So if you go just be aware of it. It is a popular place so show up early to get a table.

Lure Fish House
Seafood
This place just recently opened in Porter Ranch. Everything was really good, but expensive. I had the Alaskan halibut and Pam had the Salmon. All the fish is grilled. The sourdough rolls were awesome. For dessert Pam had the blueberry cobbler while I had the flourless chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The restaurant is inviting and clean with friendly help. This is a place to go on special occasions. That is because it is pricey and a little bit upscale. We went since it was our first time and wanted to try it. We will definitely go back but it will be for a special event.

🇺🇸 Las Vegas
Siegel's 1941
American
This is the diner located in the El Cortez hotel in Las Vegas. It is one of the oldest hotels and the last one which hasn’t changed its facade since it was built. I think it was constructed in 1941, hence the name of the diner. The food was good just like any breakfast place and presented well. It’s motif was 40’s and the music they played was from that time period. It also had old timers in there that give the place a certain atmosphere. I’ve been coming to Vegas for over 40 years and had never been to this hotel. Downtown Vegas doesn’t have a good rep but if you visit you need to just roam around Fremont St and get a feel for how Vegas use to be. The Mob Museum is two blocks from here. If you have an afternoon it is worth the $45 charge to walk through and do the tour. It shows old Vegas and is really nostalgic.

Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop
Ice Cream Shop
I’m not suppose to ingest sugar but I’m on a mini vacation in Vegas so I throw caution to the wind. This store is in a location called Linq Promenade. It’s squeezed between the Linq casino and the Flamingo. It’s packed with restaurants and the entrance to the High Roller, the huge Ferris wheel on the strip. We had dinner there before going to the Mat Franco magic show at the Linq. He puts on a good show. But anyway, it you are into a good sundae after dinner this is the place.

Off the Strip

Off the Strip is in the Linq Promenade on the Strip. This is where we had dinner before the Mat Franco magic show. The food here was fantastic. Pam said the salmon and rice bowl was the best she ever had. The rice was favorable and the salmon cooked to perfection. I had the 10 oz burger with mushrooms and cheddar cheese. It was juicy and tasty. It came with fries. If there were more thumbs up I would give it to this place. There were several big screens showing the March Madness if you were interested. A great atmosphere.

BBQ Joint
I think I’ve done this one before. This is our neighborhood sandwich place. They have the best bbq beef on garlic toast sandwiches on the planet! Their bbq sauce is awesome. Pam ordered the turkey sandwich which also is very good. All the food is cooked over wood which gives the meat a juicy taste. Just off the 118 if you are in the area you have to stop and eat here.

Gus's BBQ
BBQ
This place has been here for two years now but the first time we’ve been there. It was closed for a time due to Covid but now open. Gus’s has three stores now but don’t know what plans they have to expand. The original Gus’s opened in Pasadena in 1946. The food was good. I had the smoked sausage with fries. I dipped the sausage in spicy mustard sauce which was good. Pam had the fried chicken with collard greens. She liked it. I can’t eat that battered chicken, makes me sick. They have a big menu so we’ll be back to try other items.
