I'd pass on this salad if given a second chance. The duck was moist but under-seasoned and the squash was not ripe.

Flamender - Restaurant & Bar

I wanted to try out multiple places during my Bratislava day trip so I had appetizer, main, and dessert at different places. The apple flavored spritzer was refreshing on a warm day.

Only place I could find that was open late after I watched Swan Lake at the Vienna State Opera house. Not a destination spot but I needed to eat!

Café Mozart

I had a lot of white wine and spritzers in Austria. The goulash here was very thick and flavorful, and I loved having a dessert sampler. Sacher torte can be a little dry so you always have to eat it with whipped cream. In this case, the cream was unsweetened which I like. Desserts in America are usually too damn sweet for me.

Kolonitzbeisl - Alt Wiener Wiazhaus

First night in Vienna and I doubled down on the liver: both in the soup and my entree. Both dishes were enjoyable, especially the soup. Clear broths and offal are favorites of mine so win/win.

La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise
Czech/Slovakian
The proteins were all exceedingly moist and shockingly there didn't seem to be much sous vide involved. With the chicken breast, it was so tender and moist, but actually grilled. I was really impressed with the cooking techniques. And the fish was perfect: fresh and light and cooked with a light hand: semi-translucent in the center. The juice pairings also were very good. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in Prague. (Part 2 of 2)

La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise
Czech/Slovakian
Delicious Michelin star dinner. Eleven courses, each paired with a special juice. You can do a wine pairing too but after the first five glasses, you can't taste the food anymore. I know this from experience. I like the idea of a juice pairing; it seemed to be popular in Copenhagen too. The juices weren't sweet at all, though the grape juice, the only one not made on site, was sweeter than the rest. (Part 1 of 2)

Zmrzlina Créme de la Créme
Ice Cream Shop
Italian style gelateria in Prague. The coconut wasn't that special, but I did like the strawberry basil. The basil flavor was faint but the texture and strawberry taste was reminiscent of sorbetto I've had in Italy. Not as good as the best Tuscan gelaterias, but then again, nothing is.

Good Food Coffee & Bakery

Wanted a light dinner after my huge lunch, so I got one of these trdelník (spit cakes). They are mostly served sweet, either with chocolate or caramel or berries or ice cream but I got the savory version. It was kinda like a croissant sandwich. It's shaped like a cone with the filling inside.

Had to come back to explore more of the menu. The pea soup and cured pork (kasseler) were my favorite dishes this time around. I'd recommend any of the traditional meat dishes as they're generously portioned and perfectly cooked. I was happy that white asparagus was on the seasonal menu.

This anonymous little stand had an okay version of currywurst. Certainly not as good as the first stand I went to but you can't beat the view.

Trendy German small plates restaurant. Nice concept since, as the owner explains, German food usually comes in a huge plate and you don't get to try a variety of foods in one sitting. The consommé had a lovely depth of flavor and the sauerbraten was tender and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend.

Only place open late. Doner kebabs are the classic late night fast food in lots of European countries. The guy was really nice and gave me all three sauces (garlic, spicy, yogurt) because I was indecisive.

This is a local's spot in Berlin, always packed. The glass noodle salad reminded me of my mom's cooking, and it was a light respite with all the heavy vacation eating. The pho ga used beef broth. I could taste the star anise and MSG. I'd pass on the pho section if I were you.

Noma, the darling of New Nordic cuisine, is closed currently, so I went to its more casual sister location which has one Michelin star. My verdict: very uneven. Dishes are clever in concept and visual appeal but the flavor simply isn't there. My favorite dish was the scallop, mainly because I love raw scallop and the weird stuff (fermented, miso-like, liquid sourdough bread) they added didn't interfere with the taste too much. Plates are small and ordered tapas style. The entire bill was about $100 with tip, so not bad overall.
