I’ve been looking forward to this Sunday Dinner for awhile... An Iranian rice cake made primarily with rice, yogurt, and saffron called Tahchin ($28) from Golden Rice Co., a Sunday pick-up pop-up at Bootsy Bellows in WeHo. I opted for the pulled chicken (sliced eggplant or salmon fillet are the other choices) and is topped with ruby barberries. I ordered the chicken, because how can you not have chicken with rice, right? I loved the ruby barberries with it, nice balance. I will have to try it with the recommended “mast-o-khiar” next time. This time I ordered with hummus ($8), since I’m a hummus guy (which was very good). I’m glad that @goldenriceco didn’t include utensils, because I would’ve started eating it in the car. Happy Kentucky Christmas! Since I’m not celebrating Christmas with my family this year, I thought I’d celebrate Christmas in Japan (or I guess Kentucky). Well, figuratively anyway and not literally. In case you didn’t know... KFC in Japan is HUGE on Christmas Day. It dates back to the 1970’s when Westerners living in Japan asked where to get turkey or even a Christmas Dinner during the holidays? A KFC Japan store manager listened and started “Kentucky Christmas” Since then, you can preorder a Christmas Dinner bucket with fried chicken, salad, a cake, and a special decorative plate to display. They start taking reservations the month before and is around $40 for the set. Yes, they do sellout or you can go and wait in line. (KFC in Japan doesn’t serve mashed potatoes or gravy, WTH???) It kind of makes sense, as the ovens in Japanese homes are very small AND Turkey is very hard to find in Japan. Now you know...
