Gaggan
Indian
Part 2: We had the awesome opportunity to try Gaggan, 2 Michelin Stars, rated #1 on the Asia’s Top 50 Restaurants list for many years running and #5 on the World’s Top 50 Restaurants list. Cuisine is described as Contemporary Indian is Molecular Gastronomy. I got the 25-course tasting menu with the 9 glasses of wine/sake pairing. Menu comes in an all emoji format (reveal of the dishes comes at the end of the meal). Some of the dishes came paired with music like the Lick It Up dish paired with KISS’s song of the same name, and the Death Star dish paired with the Star Wars Theme. Some of the dishes came out on plates that you had to put together to make out the map of India. Some of the dishes they explained and some you had to guess. Very interactive and very fun. Indian cuisine is known for its strong flavor and heavy spices but the flavor and tastes for this meal was perfect, nothing too overpowering and everything very flavorful. The pairings of the 9 glasses of wine and sake were perfect too. Finally the big reveal of the dishes explained on the emoji menu. I had to top off the final 4 desserts with a double espresso. The maitre d’ was kind enough to give us a tour of the prep area and kitchen too. I highly recommend getting a reservation (2 months in advance) and checking this place out. The owner/chef has already announced the closing date in 2020 after which he will move onto his next project in Fukuoka Japan (can’t wait to try this one too!)

Our friend John hosts a dinner here every time we’re back in Taipei. It’s one of our favorite sushi places. Owner has a vintage collection of sakes too. We had 3 bottles at dinner, or was it 4. Too drunk to remember.
