I opted to go with a side of Potato Salad and get the Russian Dressing on the side. It’s a good Westside version of a famous sandwich from another part of town. Only Available For 4 Weeks! (Last day is Sunday at Mar Vista FM) “Shinano Smile” Grapes from Magical Grapes at today’s Santa Monica Farmers Market. I had these a few years ago and they are AMAZING! Sweet, but not quite a grape flavor, more complex with a fragrance to it. Peel before eating and expect a lot of juice with a complex flavor. To me, it had more of a Lychee flavor vs. a Grape flavor. Regardless, they were delicious! I bought them for my crew to taste, fortunately I had to check on something a block away today. The crew asked when I’m going back to the farmers market? I can safely say they enjoyed them too. These grapes are grown locally, but in a Japanese way. Meaning, they are taken care of in a way to produce the very best product. They watch the number of flowers are on the vine, the amount of sunlight, and covering the fruit. Yes, it came with a premium price, $20. I’m No Doubting Thomas Now! A guy told me that I needed to try the Breakfast Burrito at a bakery in HiFi. I didn’t really take his recommendation seriously at first, but then happened to hear from another source. Since I was planning on driving by, I thought to stop and try this burrito. Anyway, today was the day I ordered the “Doubtless Breakfast Burrito” from Doubting Thomas Bakery in the Historic Filipinotown of LA. With braised pork shoulder, white cheddar, smashed sierra gold potatoes, smoked chili, cilantro, onion, sunny eggs, tomatillo salsa (which was a great addition on the side), and I added bacon. . Except for a small bit of paper that I found inside the burrito, it was a very good Breakfast Burrito which I enjoyed. A “Doubting Thomas” is someone who refuse to believe something until they see definite proof or evidence of it. I can definitely say… THIS WAS A VERY GOOD BREAKFAST BURRITO! (Includes fire-roasted jalapeños and tomatoes, hummus, onions with parsley, and rice.) I always order an extra side of hummus, which is made daily, I save for snack time with the fresh Armenian lavash bread. Mini Kabobs always has imported drinks that are hard to find here. Fire Menu! #tbt Remembering one of the many casualties of the pandemic… Mh Zh in Silver Lake (Closed). (loosely translates to “what is it” in Hebrew). IYKYK Last week, @caribbeangourmet and her family celebrated my birthday. At dinner, we reminisced about this former restaurant. Everything was amazing, as we sat on makeshift tables on the sidewalk or crammed at small tables inside. Reasons why this place was great, IMO… 1. It was a small neighborhood place. 2. The menu wasn’t fancy, some dishes were served on top of paper bags AND the daily menu written on a paper bag too. 3. Wood-Burning Grill, enough said. 4. Service was Great, even while seated out on the sidewalk. 5. Menu was SIMPLE, but creative. 6. Hummus Bling Bling was Delicious, I ordered it twice each time I went. 7. The Branzino, you went just for this fish, period! 8. “Fire Menu” was something you requested since everything looked great (order everything on the menu) and I did this each time too. BLACKJACK ♦️♣️♥️♠️ BLACKJACK QUESADILLA from Kogi Taqueria Truck. Caramelized onions and spicy pork married together with melting cheddar and jack cheeses. Each side of the massive flour tortillas is grilled until it gets as crispy, tender and pliant as a great Neopolitan pizza before being ladled with citrus-jalapeño-roasted-garlic salsa verde. I told this story a couple of times this weekend… A restaurant owner I know was selecting his football picks. I was laughing at him, as he always picks the losers. He asked me, “do you gamble?” My reply, “Every time I eat at your restaurant.” He hasn’t talked to me since, no big deal, his food still isn’t that great and still picks losers.
