Privacy Policy

Updated November 3, 2026

Yummi Inc. ("Yummi," "we," "us," or "our") provides the Yummi mobile applications, the website at www.yummiapp.com, and related services that let you record and organize your food photos and experiences ("Foodprints") (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose personal information when you use the Services, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: name, username, email address, password, and profile photo.
  • Foodprints and other content: photos (up to 15 per Foodprint), captions, ratings, cuisine, restaurant or venue, comments, Foodmarks (places saved for later), favorites, and messages you send to other users in the app.
  • People and social activity: who you follow, who follows you, your interactions with other users, and the coins (points) you earn through activity in the app.
  • Contacts (optional): with your permission, the app uses the names in your device's contacts to help you find people you know on Yummi. This matching happens on your device. Your contacts are not sent to or stored on our servers, and we do not collect phone numbers or email addresses from your contacts.
  • Communications: messages you send to support, survey answers, and problem reports.

Photos and photo information

When you add photos, we collect the photos you choose and the information stored with them, including the date and time taken and the location where they were taken (GPS data). We use the date to place a meal correctly in your history, even for older photos, and the location to suggest the restaurant and place the Foodprint on your map.

You control which photos the app can see through your device's photo permissions.

Location information

Location is central to Yummi. Each Foodprint is tagged with where you ate, using your photo's location data or your device's location, so you can sort and find your food memories by place on your map and in your log. With your permission, we also use your device's location to suggest a venue, show nearby restaurants and Foodprints (NearMe), and center the map. We access device location only while you are using the app, not in the background. You can turn off location access in your device settings. If you do, Yummi can still tag Foodprints using the location saved in your photos, but NearMe and nearby venue suggestions will not work, and some Foodprints may need a venue chosen manually.

Sign-in providers

You can create a Yummi account with your email address, or sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook. When you sign in with one of these providers, we receive information the provider makes available to us:

  • Google: your Google account ID, email address, whether that email address is verified, and your name.
  • Apple and Facebook: information such as your name, email address (or an Apple private relay address), profile photo, and an account identifier, depending on the provider and your settings with it.

We use this information only to create your Yummi account and sign you in. If the email address from a provider matches an existing Yummi account, we link that sign-in method to your existing account. We do not receive your password for these providers, and your use of their sign-in is also subject to their own privacy policies. WeChat sign-in is being retired. If you previously signed in with WeChat, we will ask you to add an email address to keep using your account.

Information collected automatically

  • Device type, operating system, app version, language, and device identifiers.
  • IP address and the approximate location it indicates.
  • How you use the app: screens viewed, features used, searches, filters, and taps.
  • Crash reports and performance data.

We and our service providers collect this with software development kits (SDKs), cookies on our website, and similar tools.

Photos of other people

Yummi is designed for food photos. If you choose to upload photos that show other people, please make sure they are comfortable with it, especially before sharing them publicly. We do not use facial recognition to identify people in photos.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and run your account.
  • Save, organize and display your Foodprints by date, place and cuisine in your log, Calendar and Map.
  • Suggest restaurants and venues for your photos, using our restaurant database and Google Places.
  • Show what's nearby (NearMe) and Foodprints from people you follow.
  • Personalize the app based on your settings and activity, such as the cities and cuisines you filter by.
  • Run social features: profiles, following, comments and sharing.
  • Show ads (see "Advertising" below).
  • Send service messages about your account, security and changes to the Services, and, with your preferences respected, news and promotions.
  • Answer support requests.
  • Find and fix bugs, measure performance, and improve the Services.
  • Prevent fraud, spam, abuse and security incidents, and enforce our Terms of Use.
  • Meet legal obligations.
  • Create aggregated or deidentified information that cannot reasonably identify you (see "How we disclose information" below).

Advertising

We show ads in the Services, including in your log and feeds. Ads are provided by Google (Google AdMob in our apps and Google AdSense on our website). To deliver and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location, device information, and which ads you saw or tapped, and may use cookies on our website. Google's use of this information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Your choices:

  • iPhone: we ask for permission before any tracking across other companies' apps and websites. If you say no, Google won't receive your advertising identifier from the app, and ads won't be personalized based on that tracking. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Android: you can delete or reset your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads (wording varies by device).
  • Website and Google account: you can manage personalized ads from Google in My Ad Center or block cookies in your browser settings.

What other people can see

You can control who sees your content using the privacy settings for your account and individual Foodprints.

  • Public profile and Foodprints: your name, username, profile photo, follower and following lists, and public Foodprints, including photos, caption, rating, restaurant and location, can be seen by anyone, in the app and on the web at www.yummiapp.com, and may appear in search engine results. Public Foodprints also appear on maps and in NearMe for people nearby.
  • Private account or Foodprint: visible only to you. A private account and private Foodprints are not shown on the web or in search results.

Defaults: profiles are public by default. When you log a new Foodprint, it is set to public unless you switch it to private before saving it. You can change the setting later.

Public Foodprints show where you ate. The location attached to a public Foodprint can be seen by anyone, so please consider this before making a Foodprint public. Anything you make public can be saved or reshared by others, and we cannot pull back copies made outside Yummi.

If you share a Foodprint to another app, that app's privacy policy applies to what you share there.

How we disclose information

We disclose personal information only in these situations.

Service providers that run parts of Yummi for us, under contracts that limit their use of the data to that work:

Provider What it does Information it receives
Amazon Web Services Hosting, storage and backups Account data, content, and server logs
Google Cloud (BigQuery) Analytics App usage events, device information
Google Places Restaurant and venue lookup Search terms and photo or device location
Google (AdMob and AdSense) Ads (see "Advertising") As described in "Advertising"
Google (Firebase Crashlytics) Crash and performance reports Device and diagnostic data
Email delivery service Account and support email Name and email address

Other users, as you choose through your privacy settings (see "What other people can see").

Legal and safety reasons: to comply with law or valid legal process, enforce our Terms, prevent fraud or security problems, or protect anyone's safety.

Business transfers: if Yummi is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may transfer to the new owner. That owner must honor this policy or give you notice before applying a materially different one.

Aggregated or deidentified information: we may share statistics that cannot reasonably identify you, such as the most-logged cuisines in a city. We do not try to reidentify this data, and we require recipients not to either.

Sale of personal information: we do not sell personal information.

Planned features

We are developing additional features, which may include on-device photo sorting that finds food photos and groups them into meals, AI-assisted photo recognition, personalized recommendations and recaps, video in Foodprints, and an optional paid subscription. When a new feature uses personal information in a materially different way, we will update this Privacy Policy before it launches and, where required, ask for your permission in the app. If a feature would send your information to a third-party AI provider, we will ask for your permission before any information is sent.

If we offer health or nutrition features in the future, we will ask for your separate consent before collecting any health-related information.

How long we keep information

We keep your account and Foodprints while your account is open. We keep other information only as long as we need it:

  • Usage and diagnostic data: as long as needed to operate, secure and improve the Services.
  • Support messages: as long as needed to resolve your request and keep a record of it.
  • Backups: kept for up to 30 days, then overwritten.
  • Records we must keep by law, or to resolve disputes or prevent fraud: as long as that requires.

Deleting your account

You can delete your Yummi account at any time, right in the app: go to Settings → Help and support → Delete account. Your account is closed right away.

If you can't use the app, email us at hello@yummiapp.com from the email address on your Yummi account and ask us to delete it. We'll email you to confirm once it's done.

After your account is closed, we delete your account, profile, Foodprints, photos and comments from our systems, usually within a week. Copies in our backups are overwritten within 30 days. We keep only limited records after that: a record that the account was deleted, and information about accounts removed for fraud or abuse, which we keep only as long as the law requires or as needed to stop the same abuse. Copies other people saved of content you made public are outside our control.

Your choices and rights

  • Edit or download: edit your profile and Foodprints in the app. To get a copy of your information, email hello@yummiapp.com and we will send it to you within 30 days.
  • Privacy settings: make your account or any Foodprint private at any time.
  • Device permissions: manage photo, camera, contacts, location and notification access in your device settings.
  • Emails: unsubscribe from promotional email with the link in each one. Account and security messages will still be sent.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information; to object to or restrict certain uses; to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale or sharing of information; to withdraw consent; and to appeal our decision on your request. Email hello@yummiapp.com to make a request. We will verify your identity first and will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Do Not Track. Our website does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.

California residents

In the past 12 months we have collected identifiers, account information, app activity, location (including precise location from photos), photos and other content, and inferences about your preferences, for the purposes in "How we use information," from the sources in "Information we collect." We disclose them only as described in "How we disclose information." Precise location and login credentials are "sensitive personal information"; we use them only to provide the Services, not to infer characteristics about you.

Children

Yummi is for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hello@yummiapp.com and we will delete it.

International users

Yummi is based in the United States, and our providers process information in the United States and other countries. If you use Yummi from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to the U.S., where privacy laws may differ. Where required, we use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No system is completely secure. Use a strong, unique password and tell us if you think your account has been accessed without permission.

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy, we change the "Last Updated" date. For material changes, especially new uses of information you already gave us, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and ask for your consent where required.
