(Forgot food photos) Everything ordered was tasty. Best was D’s roasted pork burrito. I would definitely go back here.

Baltic Bakehouse

Wow. Wow. Wow. The bread. Still thinking about it. Elevated the Sausage Butty. I finished off one half in the car, six hours later. Took home a wheat germ and honey loaf. Amazing toast, loved by everyone.

Salt House Tapas Liverpool
Tapas Bar
A refreshing departure from traditional tapas. Meats and seafood cooked properly. The things I would order again: Sizzling prawns, Chicken breast, Slow-cooked octopus (this was very interesting, in the tart, slightly sweet broth), bread and butter pudding. The Malaga fried fish looked like it was going to be amazing, but they were not crispy enough. The tortilla was cooked nicely but was under-salted.

Hai Cenato
Pizza
The pizzas are original with delicious crust. We got a Rossa with fennel sausage and a Bianca with smoked pancetta. I preferred the first b/c the tomato added some needed kick; S and D preferred the bianca. The pappardelle was very nice, though because it was rich, I am glad we were sharing dishes. The beet salad was very good, especially the red beets, sweet as candy.

Westerns Laundry
Seafood
(Can’t rewrite my full review for the fifth time...) I loved the baked bouillabaisse. The fish on top was a red gurnard. Never heard of it before, but the flesh is so finely flaked that it doesn’t flake. Very moist, juicy flesh, nice bite. Seems a very forgiving fish. Chefs gave us an extra John Dory b/c they deemed the fish too small to serve just one. A daunting look to the fish, and quite a lot of work to eat, but JD has great texture and flavour. The mullet was cooked so nicely, crispy skin, but I didn’t care enough for the tapenade-like sauce. I loved the grilled sardines. Definitely a must-visit for real fish lovers.

The Sea, The Sea
Seafood
Super-fresh seafood, everything so delicate and tender. Perfectly prepared items. There are a lot of raw fish items, I assume because freshness is their main gig. My husband said this is the best seafood in London; I would say that it is possibly the freshest seafood in London. I would return, but I have to say that the preponderance of slightly to quite sour items was not something that I particularly enjoyed. Two of us ate all of the above. My birthday dinner.

YoKOYA-Yakitori and Sushi and Suntory Japanese Whisky
JapaneseIzakaya
This off-the-beaten-path, super-authentic Japanese Izakaya-style (pub) restaurant specializes in yakitori: meat, fish or vegetable grilled atop a specialized, traditional grill (see photo). They also serve a limited variety of very fresh sushi. Today’s special fish was tuna, but it was some of the best parts of the fish. We had chutoro nigiri (everyone ate theirs up so quickly, there was nothing left for a photo) and a roll, both just so fresh and rich. Everything we ate was simple, fresh, flavorsome, not at all fussy. My husband says this is his new favorite Japanese restaurant in London. It really looks like a place you would find in Japan. We could not quite understand why it was not fully booked on a Friday evening. Maybe there are more late-night diners; They stay open to 1:30am on Fridays.

The Jones Family Kitchen
British
Eclectic, quirky decor. Nice ambience to bring friends. Trendy, lots of people hanging around outside in the Yard. Wimbledon on large screen. Steak (Porterhouse, 950g) was definitely “British beef”, not very mealy, but chewier texture than it should have. Beware: Ordered mid-rare, got medium to mid-well on the skinny side. A and D loved the greens—tons of sesame oil. Triple-cooked chips—hit or miss as to getting a very crispy chip. I ate both ends and left the middles behind. Truffle fries were a hit. Chimichuri not so good, not if you have tried the real, Argentine kind.
