The Flying Elk Hong Kong
Swedish
Food was OK... Decor and atmosphere was comfortable, simple Scandinavian. Has an outdoor terrace. Of the lunch set, the scallop was definitely the star. As a fan of blue cheese, found the burger to be too overwhelming and heavy. Sticky toffee pudding has a strong ginger taste, Bread Street Kitchen was definitely more sinful.

Nagi Ramen
JapaneseRamen
Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: quick bite Must Eat: Angus Beef Noodle This Angus Beef Noodle is a seasonal special and *drumroll* it’s gooood. Thinly sliced beef cooked to medium-rare (yes, parts of it is pretty raw so if you’re not into that, don’t get it); topped with chopped scallions, onions and a raw egg yolk. Considering it’s a soup-less ramen, the base is somewhat creamy (probably from the egg yolk and some kind of sauce?) and definitely flavorful. It has a flavor profile that’s unique and I can’t really put my finger to it, but it’s definitely something I would crave. The noodles were cooked to perfection, it’s chewy but not hard and has a good bite to it. Nagi Ramen is a small shop with 4-5 tables, we went during lunch time on a weekday and there were no lineup but hard to say for the weekend. The service wasn’t terrible (don’t let the rating fool you), just that there weren’t a lot of service considering it’s pretty self-served, but the people there are definitely friendly and patient. I’ll definitely be back, cause thinking about is already making it crave it (and I just polished the bowl 4 hours ago!)

Pici Central
ItalianPasta
Food: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Ambience: casual, friends and date Be prepared: for an hour long wait on a weekend, unless you go early. Pici has expanded pretty aggressively this past year and with good reason. The food has been consistent, pasta is definitely one of the better ones in Hong Kong, and most importantly, the pricing is very friendly. The biggest downside to Pici is their walk-in only policy, which can be quite frustrating when you have a larger party. Ok. So about the food. For 290 per person you can get their tasting menu. For a party of four, you get four appetizers, six pastas, and four desserts. This is definitely more than enough to induce you into a serious carb coma. Amongst the dishes we ordered, our all-time favorite is still (and always) their Orecchiette and the close second (and a new found favorite), is their Girasoli Carbonara.

Sushi Kuu
Japanese
Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: casual, friends and date Reservation recommended Kuu had once upon a time been a weekend staple before a night out of drinking and dancing on sofas, but as we become progressively ‘wiser’, gone were those days where dinner only begins after 8:30pm and nowadays, we were back for lunch instead. We actually haven’t been back to Kuu for quite a few years, since Kitcho conveniently opened right above them and we found their menu to be strikingly similar but Kitcho’s decor were much brighter and cleaner, hence preferable to us old farts. Anyways, let’s stop reminiscing the good ol’ days and talk about the food. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED! One of my favorite dons was their Wagyu Beef Bowl and it tasted like a Cafe de Coral black pepper beef bowl (if they have that). It was so saucy and peppery, the beef was over cooked, needless to say, we doubt it’s even Wagyu despite the price point. Their only redeeming factor was offering the Shabu Shabu Salad as a side portion and that, fortunately, was still good. So the bottom line is, I won’t be back and would rather hit up Kitcho upstairs instead.

Krispy Kreme Siam paragon
Donuts
Food: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Ambience: grab and go donut joint A trip to Bangkok basically equates to a beeline to Siam Paragon for Krispy Kreme. I know I know. It’s just a donut, what’s the big deal? Well, it is when it’s not readily available in your city. It’s sugary, fried, and basically a doctor’s nemesis. But it’s sooooo good when you only have one per year.

Supabowl
Miscellaneous
Been wanting to try Supabowl from the time we were sitting in Bread and Beast staring at the healthy looking coconut bowls. Initially thought they served yoghurt bowls (silly me), I have to say I’m pretty blown away with their açaí bowls (yes, they serve açaí bowls, not yoghurt bowls). If you’ve never had açaí bowls before, they’re basically a healthy version of gelatos (or smoothies). Laden with rich antioxidants and a whole lot of other goodness that you can Google yourself, it’s definitely my newest favorite guiltless treat. It’s cold, it’s creamy, it’s fruity, it’s just really good and you’ll find yourself thinking about them in the middle of the night as you’re tossing and turning, trying to sleep. Food: 5/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: to go only Be prepared to find a spot on the benches outside and eat on the streets

喜茶HEYTEA
Drinkscasual
The hype for HEYTEA has been around for a while already but since their lines have been incredibly long and I’ve personally been trying to stay off sugary drinks, we have been avoiding this place like the plague. Ok. So the both DH and I did love the drink (some mango ice cream smoothie). It wasn’t too sweet even though I forgot to ask them to lower the sweetness as I would in other BBT places. All in all, it’s pretty awesome. The biggest downside is their lack of photos on the menu, or even any description of their drinks on the menu. Frankly, I only ordered this drink cause it’s mango, it’s ice cream, so in my mind, nothing can go wrong. I’d definitely go back again after doing some research on their other drinks. Food: 4/5 Service: - Ambience: quick (well, long wait) grab to go

New Punjab Club
Indian
Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: casual, friends and date Reservation recommended Must eat: Keema Pau and Samosa Chaat Our favorite Indian/Punjab place! New Punjab Club actually converted my no-Indian food husband to a lover! I mean, it is what, the first Punjab place to receive a Michelin star? It’s gotta say something. Our all time craving is definitely the Keema Pau. Not only was DH not an Indian food lover, but also a lamb hater. This dish completely transformed him. The milk bun was fried to perfection - crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside. Coupled with the spiced mutton, it was flavorful, crispy, and just absolutely delish. A close second for me was the Samosa Chaat. Compared to the regular samosas I’ve had, the yoghurt sauce and particularly the pomegranate seeds just upped the game. The tanginess balances out the deep fried samosas really well and it’s just a really good starter dish to get your appetite going. The rest of the dishes are also top notch. Don’t forget the dessert - they only have two. Get them both! Oh. And their gin cocktails are allegedly very good as well. The service at New Punjab Club has always been superb. The people are friendly, funny (if you’re up for some laughs and jokes) and most importantly, you can trust their recommendations.

Little Bao
ChineseFusion
Shocked by the lack of dessert option (by that, I mean they don’t serve dessert) at Hotal Colombo, we walked over to Little Bao for their little fried piece of heaven. Having been to the one in Causeway Bay with disappointment, I was overwhelmingly surprised with these two little pieces of goodness. The bao (aka bun) were freshly fried (not too oily mind you) so it’s crispy and warm on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. The ice cream added the extra sensation and complexity to the bun. Although the salt ice cream were a tad bit too salty, but the caramel syrup balanced it out well. I can’t say much about the Green Tea Bao but considering no words were exchanged till they were demolished, I take it that it was equally mind blowing and hit the spot. La Rambla By Catalunya
Spanish
Rainy day lunch at IFC and without surprise, La Rambla were one of the few (only) place that allowed me to make a 12:30 reservation the morning of. Considering the price point, the food is really quite average, particularly compared to their dinner menu. So, let’s start with the suckling pig, which is 2 big bites, not crispy, and the mashed pear compote is on the dessert sweet side. Is it atrocious? No. But does it make me want more? Definitely not. Moving on, the Wagyu Beef Ragu pasta was better in comparison. The beef was well cooked and the fat was well rendered. The sauce on the other hand, tasted like your typical out of the jar tomato sauce. Again, it’s not a bad dish, but I definitely wouldn’t be paying the price for it. Lastly, the sad sad ‘desserts’, I had a bite and stopped. So I guess that’s enough said. However, all in all, the food didn’t make me want to not eat it, but definitely won’t be back for lunch anytime soon. Food: 2.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: friends, date

Ching Ching Desserts
Chinese
I can’t express how disappointing we were with Ching Ching! Our once favorite go-to dessert place has now rendered their red bean soup to be so watery that it felt like it came straight out of some instant mix packet! The dumplings were okay, but definitely way chewier in my mind. All in all, we won’t be going back anytime soon! Food: 2/5 Service: 2/5 Ambience: casual quick grab and go dessert

Fineprint
Cafe
Been wanting to try Fineprints for some time now, but the last time we went, there were a boat load of people outside. Given that their only indoor seating consisted of one large bench that seats probably 12, seating is pretty tight there. That crowd eating outside obviously made me want to check it out even more! So off we went at 11 this morning, hopefully early enough to beat the crowds. Hah. How wrong was I. With a small menu consisted of only sourdough based toasts (like literally sourdough with jam, avocado toast, egg toast, and smoked salmon and avocado toast were the only options), their toast was on point. After our initial bites, I finally understood the masses outside. It was crunchy on the outside and pillowy soft inside. The avocado was well seasoned and sooooo creamy. DH doesn’t even normally order avocado even enjoyed his smoked salmon and avocado toast, he thought, the nut added a nice variety of texture. For your sweet tooth, their assortment of cookies was most definitely appealing. The Kitchen Sink Cookie with pretzel, potato chips, and chocolate chip was good! Of course, DH comments that it’ll be better if they heated up (like every other cookie he has..) In regards to their coffee, which is probably the make or break element, ticked the box. All in all, I’ll definitely be back soon! Food: 5/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: quick bite Be prepared to eat outside on the sidewalk
