Fun hawker market. Lines can be a little long but good variety. I was pressed for time and so I had to quickly get my plate of food, sit down and eat a few bites, then move on.
My favorite of this place was the “carrot cake”. I went to the hawker center specifically to try this famous dish. I was a bit confused by the white and brown varieties available but since everyone in front ordered Brown I went with it. It was savory and delicious. Soft rice noodles or cakes with dark salty sauce and bits of vegetables on top, some crisp and caramelized. Was just delicious. I had to stop myself from eating the entire plate and as I left later I saw that the line had increased quite a bit. I was lucky to find this hawker first. Was crazy cheap too. Like maybe 3-4 dollars Singapore.
After that I went over to other side of hall. People online recommended the shark fritter noodle place and the lines were quite long. Somehow I messed up ordering and I got a bowl of brown with very thin white noodles and shark fried nuggets on top. I did not like the noodles or sauce. Very salty and boring. The shark could have been anything. I don’t generally eat shark as a rule but I figured once might not hurt. I had maybe two bites.
Then I was lucky enough to find a great kway teow stand. This dish was fantastic example of this sort of thing at hawker place. The line was efficient and the flavor was excellent.
I stopped for a refreshing dragon fruit and pineapple drink on way out.
