Chirashi time!!!

Pretty decent Thai food. Some small quibbles: I ordered the larb extra spicy and barely tasted any heat. And there weren’t enough rice rolls in the soup.

Homemade kouign amann filled with chocolate or chocolate hazelnut. This is a Breton pastry made by lamination similar to puff pastry or croissants except with sugar rolled in between each layer which then caramelizes. One of my favorite pastries. Takes a lot of time to make but totally worth it!

How I spent my Fourth of July weekend: cooking a huge pot of bun bo hue with all the traditional add-ins and watching Stranger Things 3.

Hanging out with friends at the soon-to-be-closed Mission Pie. So many memories here.

My favorite Italian appetizer: prosciutto and melon. Prosciutto is San Daniele, which I like better than Parma because it’s a bit sweeter.

When you go to a Russian store and get a smorgasbord of delicacies. The pumpernickel is from Acme in the Ferry Building.

My go-to place in Japantown. Homey, good food at a reasonable price.

Nice little sushi spot on Geary. Fresh fish, nicely flavored rice and an interesting mix of classic nigiri and fusion sushi along with cooked items. Recommend.

I’ve been eating more plant-based protein lately. Beyond and Impossible are pretty good meat substitutes.

Been on a health kick lately. I’m adding big homemade salads to my meals and, yes, that is an habanero on the side. I like it spicy!

The only instant noodles worth seeking out according to my Singaporean friends. Used unsalted chicken broth to make the flavor richer. Added a sous vide egg, fish balls, and other fixings.

My favorite poke place. And they have miso soup now! It was a tad too salty but I just diluted it with some water.

Haven’t posted in a while but I will post more often. Look at all of this for $10.15. Yum!

Rich creamy broth but lighter than a pork paitan due to the chicken. There’s also a whole egg buried in there. Pretty good but I’d go early to avoid the lines.

Decent khao mun gai spot in the Financial District.

I love Japanese katsu curry. I just wish the curry sauce here didn’t have such strong acidity (I think they use tomatoes). It should lean more toward sweet than spur.

The vegan meat substitute “Impossible” burger patty is very close to meat in taste and texture. Impressive (and kinda creepy).

Delicious, filling Russian food. Love the fluffy mashed potatoes and huge bowl of borscht.

Good soup but needed more salt.

My favorite artisanal ice cream parlor in the city

Cute little takeout sushi place. They also have yummy fried fish options. I recommend the fried oyster sandwich.
