My friend is in town this week for work, hence I brought him to try out a new eatery that serves local food in theWe had the most amazing meal at Maddie’s Kitchen. The food tasted even better due to their SAMBAL BELACAN 😍🌶😍🌶😍🌶. The two of us wolfed down the Crayfish and Lala Wet Bee Hoon, succulent Oyster Omelet and Fried Prawn Rolls. The entire meal costs less than SGD40, which was more than decent for Orchard Road pricing. The woman at the helm, Mui Leng was patient, humble and polite in recommending dishes to me. She suggested we order the three dishes first before deciding if we should order more. She doesn’t hard sell and because of that, I will definitely bring more people here to support her first F&B venture. I asked Mui Leng who Maddie was and she said, “Maddie is someone very dear in the family”. Whoever the enigmatic Maddie is, I am just really inspired to see genuine, honest women like Mui Leng take a leap of faith to start her own business. This is s fruit called Buah Long Long (Indonesians called Ke Dong Dong). It’s usually available only in Malaysia. This is the first time I am seeing it in Singapore. Buah in Bahasa Melayu means “fruit”. This is a sourish fruit. Sellers will usually add some sour plum into its juice to neutralise the sourness.

Attempted to get my crispy prata fix at #mrandmrsmohgan but they were closed! Hence, I tried the dumpling mee pok at Hock Thye Noodles at the same hole-in-a-wall kopitiam along Crane Road. They were stuffed with succulent prawns and diced chestnuts which gave the dumplings a nice crunch for texture. A must try. . . . .
