Aloha Hawaiian BBQ

This was a delightful surprise! I thought it would be similar to Chinese but it was quite different than your typical Asian cuisine. Max saw this on TikTok so we decided to give it a try. I got the coconut shrimp (yummm) which came with white rice and a macaroni salad - I thought I wasn’t going to like the Mac salad but I again was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Max got teriyaki chicken (so good) and island fire chicken (tasty but had some heat!). Max preferred the teriyaki. He got fried rice with it, and it came with a house salad (not sure of the dressing). We also got a side of garlic noodles and springs rolls. Can never go wrong with noodles and this was a combo of Asian and Italian with the garlic addition. The spring rolls looked good, but I ate way too much and didn’t have room to try them! We will be back. So glad Max had this discovery!

Snack
Lunch picnic date by moi. 1st one of the series. Made some chicken salad (sub mayonnaise for Greek yogurt) and brought some charcuterie snacks šŸ˜‹ Tried to be healthy and used lettuce instead of bread for the chicken salad… the healthy life isn’t for me but maybe next time I’ll try romaine! Max rated the date an 8 and said ā€œI can only sit here on a blanket for so long.ā€ šŸ˜… Tip for next time: bring a couples game and an outdoor activity lol

Sugar Creek Brickhouse

This place is now Willie’s Roadhouse. We had been here one other time and I had the Buffalo mac n cheese… I was super impressed although I don’t remember that all too well. This time we went I got the Buffalo chicken wrap, and again I was kind of disappointed. Too much Buffalo sauce and the grilled chicken wasn’t great. Although, I really like the location of this place and they have a big menu so I want to try some more things before completely knocking it. Max got a smash burger and it looked fantastic (he said it was very good too). It was huuugeee. We also got a side of the cheese curds and again, wasn’t super impressed with them, but next time we will hopefully try another option! They also have a bar area in the back that was hidden which is on the list to sit the next time we are in.

The vibes are high here. Such a cool place in a strip mall. The outside makes the place look small but it’s the opposite. They have an upstairs seating area that overlooks the bar and the rest of the downstairs seating. They have very extensive menus both for food and beer. I wish it was closer so we could go more often to try more food! Max got a burger with their swamp sauce and upgraded his chips to come with their famous dip — delicious! Their chips were different than most, thinner and so good. Mozzarella sticks were good (and had some good cheese pulls), and the chicken Alfredo was good too. The chicken had a teriyaki sauce on it which was different. I want to go back again and expand from my go-to pick here. A couple of side notes… shout out to our waiter, Jon! The napkin with his name and candle was a cute touch I’ve not experienced here and he was on top of our service. Also, the French onion soup here is good too for future reference!

Speedway City Garage
Coffee Shop
This picture is a little deceiving and I wish I would’ve grabbed more photos but this was a quick stop I took during Indy Design Week so I could catch up on some work before the next event. This was not only a coffee shop but also served beer! I opted to try their coffee though since it was only 3pm at this point. I tried the cookie dough cold brew or something like that. I am very picky about my coffee and don’t love cold brew so it was okay for me, but the cold brew foam was absolutely divine and made the whole drink in my It was the best day to try this place as they had the garage window open and really created a great atmosphere for those working as well as those engaging with friends in conversation. 10/10 and hoping to get back there again soon!

This used to be a frequent stop for me! I attended a Tuesday running club and after we would grab a beer and food if desired. Highly recommend the sours. We came here on a Tuesday for their discounted tacos. I like to get their chipotle sauce to dip them in. I also think their beer cheese is pretty good so I added fries on the side to dip them into the cheese. Max got a burger (which I didn’t try), but I did try the mac n cheese (I had too…), and it was different. Originally I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, and as I ate more of it I began liking it more. It had a hint of a jalapeƱo taste which I wasn’t expecting and wasn’t sure if that was a good thing, but I ended up really like that twist of a taste incorporated into it! Will be back for more…

Frosty Boy Drive In
Ice Cream Shop
This time I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but this is a cute ice cream shop in New Pal. I believe it’s closed during the winter as it’s set up like a drive-in with an ordering window and outside seating. They have a variety of ice cream creations to choose from as well as some finger food snacks to purchase for a little more substance!

El Toro Bravo New Palestine
Mexican
I forgot to take a picture of the food… but we got the fiesta dip (queso and chorizo) - my fave (Max unfortunately does not like chorizo) and then I got the arroz con pollo add chorizo so good! I also usually get just the lime marg on the rocks but compromised with Max (mango marg for the chorizo queso 🤪) The mango marg was good but a little on the sweeter side in my opinion. El Toro is a frequent for me especially because it is so close to work. Some other meals I enjoy here are the arroz con shrimp, birria tacos, and the a la carte quesadillas!

The Restaurant at Hard Truth
American
I forgot to take a picture of the food… AGAIN! But for my future self—we went to Hard Truth Distillery’s restaurant in Nashville, IN. Max and I split the fish and chips (upgraded to the truffle fries). It was so good!!! I would not do the truffle fries again as they weren’t anything big to brag about but I DEFINITELY and HIGHLY recommend the beer cheese on the side to dip the fries in. Max said it was the best beer cheese he’s had (and he’s not usually a fan of it). The fish and tartar sauce was delicious too! It came with two big pieces and a small side of fries. A good meal to split for this trip. :)

PATIO SEASON!!! Sorry… forgot to get a pic of my food before diving into it. This place is pricey, but I love it every once in awhile and make sure you have an empty stomach because it’s alottttt of food! I got the Goatsnake burger: goat cheese, onion straws, some kind of vinaigrette and corn poblano? Chips (which are divine) on the side since they don’t have the mac n cheese as an option. BUT couldn’t leave without the mac either… so added that as a shareable dish (and that’s the small 😱)

I love this place! I forgot to take a picture of the menus but have been here a few times now. Started off with a wheat raspberry beer (yummy - I think it was called Oberon Eclipse from Bell’s brewery). We also got the cheese curds which are cubes with marinara and ranch, sooooo good (the cubes are my favorite). And for my main meal I went with a Caesar salad with blackened chicken - the blackened chicken was a great choice! I can’t wait to be back to try some of their other menu options and to hopefully try their patio out soon! The weather has been so nice recently that we’ve just sat in the bar area when they’ve had their garage doors open.

Second time visiting - cool atmosphere and decor (giant faux tree in middle of the bar🪾) Dj’s play in the evening, and they have a great patio space–half covered which is nice in case of rain! I love their s’mores martini šŸ¤Ž

Governors House Wine Bar & Italian Kitchen
Italian
So glad we tried this place. I love any Italian food and this might be a new favorite. They had a creamy espresso martini which is my favorite kind. The chicken parmesan was delicious and different from others I’ve had - the chicken was baked with the marinara sauce but the pasta was made with their alfredo sauce - the best of both worlds! Max ordered the shrimp short rib four cheese tortellini. He rated it an 8/10 - the tortellini was the perfect size. They were on the smaller side, and I was skeptical of the shrimp and short rib mixture but it was the perfect combination. I ordered their seasonal bread pudding for dessert, which is another favorite of mine. I think it was a chocolate coconut, but I got it to-go and didn’t ask what the flavor was. It was yummy though and was still hot after getting back home! The atmosphere was neat too! We sat at the bar - limited TVs, but we were facing one so we were able to watch one of the final four games during dinner. The restaurant is in Covington, KY in an old mansion home. There’s also outside seating, but we were unable to use that due to the rain. Very cute area though. Limited parking was available in the back for customers.
