A tiny hole in the wall joint on Yuyuan Road.
Inconspicuous as it might be, there was pretty much always a queue lined up for it, consisting mostly of locals.
It's not surprising the wait is filled with locals. This joint is actually run by an old Shanghainese couple.
It's a one dish show, with only Large and Small sizes to choose from. But despite the lean menu, operations weren't catching up with the simplicity. The granny owner wasn't exactly the most hospitable, but instead was antsy about the long queues, which rubs off on the guests.
All that being said, the food was decent. Given it's a Shanghainese joint, the unagi was less Japanese, and more of a touch of China.
Can't explain how that is, but it just tastes that way.
