🇧🇷 Copacabana
Je Suis Copa - Rio de Janeiro
French
Overall Breakfast and patisserie. The street has a lot of traffic and tables are on the sidewalk. Legitimate Rio experience, yet not so pleasant for breakfast time. Very kind and friendly waiters. The menu is well thought-out, with its own signature and a Brazilian touch to French cuisine. Order ENERGIZING JUICE (watermelon, mint and ginger). Very refreshing, but a bit heavy on the ginger. LA TARTINE DO JOÃO. Their own version of tartine, with ingredients in the right proportions (sourdough bread, creamy cheese spread, mozzarella, and scrambled eggs). Bread was delicious, eggs were cooked to the right amount (soft and a little runny), Mozzarella could have been a little more melted, but overall the tartine was great.

🇧🇷 Ipanema
Pici Trattoria
Italian
Overall Comfortable seating, great service. The place is small, so it got noisy very quickly as people came in. Order PROSCIUTTO AND BURRATA. Well prepared. Thin crust. Melting. It’s a good combination that doesn’t beat the fresh burrata though. EGGPLANT LASAGNA. Bread was deliciously toasted. Eggplant aaa perfectly cooked. The richness of the cheese competed a little with the thick tomato sauce, which was slightly acidic.

🇧🇷 Centro
Xian Rio
Asian Fusion
Overall Pleasant environment. Great view. Okay service. Long, slightly lost menu, with a variety of Asian dishes from Japan, China, India, Tailândia, Indonesia, Korea, and Vietnam. And desserts section was all over the place. In general, the menu lacked conciseness and signature. Order SALMAN SUSHI COMBO. Sushi was better than the average in Rio, but not the best. CRAB DUMPLINGS. Crab was quite present, but tasteful and not overwhelming, good texture.

🇧🇷 Vila Cruzeiro
Casa Santo Antônio
Italian
Overall Pleasant experience. Fast service. Comfortable seating. Menu had some inconsistencies with the vegetarian/vegan labeling. Order CREAMY POLENTA. Generous serving, ragu had a rich flavor, polenta felt a little bit like a purée. CROQUETA DE CARNE. Very crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Nice thin crust, but a little too oily. Jam offered a gentle contrast that could be more interesting if the meat had a more preeminent flavor. RAVIOLI D’ANATRA. Pasta al dente. Duck was tender, juicy and delicious.

🇧🇷 Itaim Bibi
Restaurante Cantaloup
International
Overall: Fantastic service. Very pleasant environment. Menu was too long. So many options I couldn’t understand the house’s brand. No signature dish. Too pricey for the complexity and level of processes. Order: Bramble cocktail. Light and refreshing. Brie croquettes. A little too doughy and lacking a punch of salt and flavor. Grilled Salmon with asparagus purée, Bearnaise sauce and sesame seeds tuille. Tasteless. White chocolate sphere with cheese mousse and guava sorbet and syrup. Chocolate sphere was too thick and ended up stealing the presumed protagonism of the insides. The sorbet and mousse were subdued. Sorbet had a good texture, the mousse was not smooth. The guava sauce was quando prepared. In the end, there was too much guava in the dish fighting against the thick, rich white chocolate.

🇧🇷 Itaim Bibi
El Tranvia Itaim
Argentine
Overall: Fast service. Good seating. Good variety of parrilas. Pricey. Order: El Tranvía steak. “Biro Biro” rice. El Tranvía broccoli. Alfajor tart. Steak was tender, juicy, well seasoned, and baked to perfection. Rice was a little crumbly. Broccoli sauce was ok. The tart was poorly balanced: too much dulce de leche, too much whipped cream, too sweet.

🇧🇷 Copacabana
Marine Restô
Brazilian
Overall: Slightly disappointing experience. Great environment. Great service. Very expensive, so I thought I would get haute cuisine, which didn’t quite happen. The main course options were not very original, could easily get those at a cheaper restaurant without much difference in preparation. The highlights seemed to be in the starters, which seemed more creative. Only there weren’t. Order: Organic Beetroot Textures. I saw no textures. There were two different preparations, but one of them fell flat, tasted like cold steamed beetroot. I hope there was more thought and variation and different techniques involved. Raw Fish Slices. The carpaccio was more of a an adventure, as you could taste the different flavors in the sauce. But nothing groundbreaking.

🇧🇷 Itaim Bibi
A Fornada Padaria
Breakfast
Overall: Pleasant experience. Pet friendly. Great variety of toasts (gluten free, vegetarian, vegan). Ok for a breakfast out. Order: Moreschi Toast. Jaboticaba Kombucha. Cinnamon Roll with Doce de Leite. Their homemade bread was very good. The guaco was ok. The caramelized onions were the highlight. The cinnamon roll was a disappointment, not soft and fluffy, felt slightly dry and underbaked, as if the dough didn’t rise enough.

🇧🇷 Jardim Paulista
Restaurante Èze
French
Overall: Pleasant experience. Nice seating and environment. It felt overpriced given the preparation. The restaurant is French but the menu flirted with Italian cuisine. Order: The tuna salad was ok. Good selection of ingredients, but unbalanced quantities. The agnolotti with goat cheese was good. I missed more almonds for texture variance, and thought the pasta was just slightly undercooked.

🇧🇷 Barra Funda
Komah Restaurante
Korean
Overall: Pleasant experience. No reservation, first come first serve. Generous servings (too much generous). Kind servers. Reasonably well thought-out dishes. Order: Tasting menu (banquete). Truly a feast. Come with an empty stomach. The make-on-your-own lettuce bundles with pancetta (Samgiopsal) was fun. The rib braised in soy sauce was tenderly juicy. The rice cake with kimchi (Kimchi Bokumbap) with the omelette was a cool idea but lacked crunchiness and felt repetitive after we had a serving of kimchi on the first dish. Overall, the variety of ingredients and preparations were appreciated, but the portion sizes were unbalanced. The highlight was the steak tartare with pear and cured yolk.
