Hays City Store & Ice House

This is becoming our local goto spot. You really can’t go wrong here. PROS: Not our first time to eat here and won’t be our last. Get the giant onion rings, and the pork chop fried with mushroom gravy, as well as the wood fired pizzas. Everything we’ve gotten here has been good. CONS: Hard to park and get in during peak hours. They do have online reservations though. Inside dining a bit underwhelming, stick to the covered patio bar if its not too hot outside. WIFE: Quickly becoming our Thursday date night spot…. Great food eaten at a picnic table under Texas Live Oak trees in the long, warm summer evening, with the air filled with music and the sound of fellow diners enjoying themselves.

Nice little bakery stop! Was recommended a Kafekali mocha, but it had an odd spice flavor that i didnt care for. PROS: Quaint! Helpful staff!!! Lots of options! Shakes, ice cream🍦, strudels, smoothies. Huge cookies🍪. Nice outdoor shade under the gigantic Catalpa trees. CON: Confined interior. Don’t come on a rainy day! No restrooms. WIFE: I loved sitting under the umbrella. ☂️

Tex-Mex cafe!!! PRO: Fast and reasonable when there isn’t an event. American and Tex-Mex with breakfast basics. CON: No waffles, all tortillas. 😭 Downtown San Marcos university scene. WIFE: The refried beans are really good! 👍
