El Tiempo Cantina
Mexican
After picking up Nathan and Becca we ate the obligatory Tex Mex. Margarita of course. Queso of course. Daniel and I split Ceviche and Carnitas. Yum. Food was great as always. Service was crummy. Queso took forever.. Waitress never came back to check on us. No tortillas were served with the carnitas.

Our last meal out of the year. This concludes our experiment and statistic keeping. The food at this place was very good, and the server was amazing. We showed without a reservation and got a table at the bar. We were served by the bartender who was just a doll, as you can see by the picture! Although it wasn’t Mexican, as I hoped, it was a lovely conclusion..

Clams were good inn a white wine garlic sauce. But the salmon was overcooked in both my salad and Daniel's tacos. The server recommended we go to Mount Constitution so we did right after lunch and were not disappointed.

Lunch with Nathan and Becca at this new spot near True Anomaly. Daniel and I split carnitas. They were very good. Homemade tortillas were legit. A bit on the pricy side.

The second of the two pizzas we ordered online. This one was pepperoni. Again, not super great. We can get what much better Chicago style pizza locally without having to order it online. At 35 bucks a pop, these were no bargain.

After a helmet repair at Cycle Gear, we went to a nearby Mexican spot. It was ok, not great. Daniel got the Stuffed Poblano. I thought the crust, which usually should be crispy, was kind of soggy. I got the combo platter so I could try several different things. The fajitas had good flavor, but again, nothing special. I would not go back.

Dinner after a meeting. The SALSA DE MOLCAJETE was too hot but had a good roasted flavor. It would’ve been good as something to put on top of a steak or some other entrée, but standalone didn’t work for me. The quesadillas on the other hand were delicious. And of course the margarita was amazing. I love this place and I think we should come here more often.

Daniel googled best burger in Houston. This place came up. Burgers were pretty good. Chili burger with Japs was yummy. Fries: excellent. Start of the show: onion rings. They were a-fucking-mazing. Next time I want the butterscotch shake.

Forgot to take pix! On our quest for good local fajitas, we ventured to Huffman despite Daniel's misgivings. Margarita was good! Salsa was warm and well spiced. Queso with ground beef. Homemade tortillas. Pablano fajitas with melty cheese, onions, mushrooms, and smoky bacon chunks! And a free ice cream. I want to go back!

Based on an article in Bon. Appétit listing it as one of the eight best BBQ restaurants in Houston, we came out to give it a try. Sausage was very good. Ribs were pretty good. Brisket was dry and didn't have enough IMO. Mac and cheese was good and creamy with a crunchy cracker topping. Beans, we got the last serving of the day, we're tasty. However, I would not count them in the top eight. Pinkerton's and Corkscrew, neither of which made the list, are both superior.

Mono's Colombian Restaurant
Latin AmericanColombian
After two failed attempts to eat at other restaurants, we went to this place that Daniel ❤️ had been to once before. The empanadas were delicious and came with the delicious green hot salsa. I love those Colombian empanadas. We shared the "everything on the plate" meal. The steak was good, but you know, super thin. The sausage was the best thing on the plate, I think. Also, the plantains were delicious. The egg could’ve been runny and it wasn’t. Maybe it’s not meant to be. The rice and beans were also delicious. I’m not a huge fan of pork belly, but it was good. I’d go back and just get the empanadas and plantains and be super happy!
