We had the grilled Humboldt giant squid, lemongrass chili lime sauce as an appetizer. It was tender and perfectly cooked. The sauce was also quite tantalizing. As a main course, three of us split:
panang curry, kaffir lime leaf, galangal, slowly simmered sirloin served with rice - this was delicious and tender and not really spicy. I loved the sauce with the rice in particular. It was just meat with perhaps a few slivers of spicy peppers atop.
khao yum - 17 ingredient mixed salad - would definitely get this again. The veggies were julienned and had a wonderful sauce. It provided a nice crisp crunch and contrast to the rest of the meal. My particular favorite were the rice cake crunchier.
pan roasted wild halibut, three-chili tamarind garlic sauce, zucchini, mushroom served with rice - good but I personally didn’t feel it was my favorite. Others liked the tamarind sauce which they said made the dish. The vegetables were quite good though. Well cooked and cooked with a touch of soy sauce perhaps.
For dessert we had egg custard over coconut sticky rice. The rice was delicious and the egg custard not too sweet. The other option was coconut ice cream which I would also try.
Jordan also ordered a wine and cheese alcoholic beverage: eight oaks pinot noir finished bourbon, fig shrub, lemon, oak farm cabernet sauvignon, mozzarella water, cinnamon
It was very good and tasted a bit like a pisco sour. Perhaps not quite worth the twenty dollars on the regular but worth a try.

Dobrá Tea Pittsburgh

We got the five option platter of food: Baba Ghanoush, Tzatziki, Muhammara (roasted red pepper) dips and feta cheese with Kalimantan Olives with Warm pita triangles. Everything on the plates was so delicious and unique. The spices were perfect and we loved the creaminess and strong but balanced cucumber flavor of the tzatziki. The M also had a nice spice level that hit at the back of your through, but not too strong. The feta was also divine. A far step above your average grocery store feta.
Jordan ordered the Genmaicha tea (lg pot) and it was a very interesting scent and flavor. It was toasted rice but smelled a lot like sesame and had a very warm toasted flavor. We both really liked it.
I ordered the Eternal Spring tea and it was good, very chamomile heavy and not as much mint and lemongrass as I was hoping.

Soul Food
Over all, the food was tasty but nothing that really made you feel that dining ecstasy. Which is a little disappointing for the price. I think their kitchen often has a difficult time keeping up with things but we got there relatively early and so it wasn’t busy at all yet.
Food we ordered:
Wok Hei Mushrooms - mushrooms were a little tough. Just not as much of a flavor pop as we were expecting. The chili crunchy sauce was more sweet than spicy. The gai lan mue (Chinese broccoli but it seemed like leaves) were my favorite part. We had an extra side of rice to soak up some of the sauce and that was a great addition.
Pulpos - These were two whole tentacles which is pretty cool. Unfortunately the texture didn’t work because it ended up absurdly tough at the thinner end and only acceptably chewy at the large end. The sauce however was amazing. The SU dried tomatoes tasted really fresh and vibrant and Jordan enjoyed the Salsa Negra.
Crab and Shrimp Gumbo - This was good. Spicy but nice flavor and packed with a lot of delicious items. But it just didn’t wow. We couldn’t pinpoint anything specific though about why.
Drinks we ordered:
Thermo - Tropical and creamy. Came a flame and that is so so cool.
Soul Sauce - The sweetness was the prevailing profile which was a frustration because Jordan wanted to be able to taste all different parts.
State of Mind - A split between brown and white. I liked it with more of the white. We didn’t mix them and I wonder if you should.

We got the following:
Southern fried chicken - okay. Not bad but nothing I’d go out of my way for. Moist and crisp in a good way but not a lot of breading.
Pan seared Catfish - good, nice tomato topping
Jamaican shrimp appetizer - tasty and good bite and texture to the shrimp. Weird wet breading on them though. Not too spicy.
Side dishes:
Plantains - honestly the best thing we ordered
Fresh veggies, zucchini with red onions and carrots - also a favorite
Garlic mashed potatoes - I love garlic so these were a win
Rice and beans - nice flavor, not dry but no sauce either.
Mini cornbread muffins - cute and thematic but not the best flavor ever.
Over all - I’d definitely go back to order different main courses.
