Snappy Lunch
American
It’s Sandwich Saturday! This is a small town sandwich that I want to try the next time I’m in Mount Airy, North Carolina, the proud home of Andy Griffith. The Pork Chop Sandwich from Snappy Lunch in Mount Airy. A 4 oz piece of Pork Tenderloin dipped in a pancake-type batter and cooked on a flattop. Served with house-made slaw and chili, lettuce, and tomato on a locally made bun. I’m intrigued by a piece of tenderized pork dipped in a pancake-like batter and cooked on a flattop and served with a local slaw and chili, unique to the area. Regardless, this sandwich sounds amazing and something served for a long time and I want to try one of these days…. I’ve also heard it’s the messiest sandwich too, now I really want to try it. Happy Saturday! 📸: Snappy Lunch #sandwichsaturday #porkchopsandwich

It’s Teriyaki Thursday! I’ve been wanting to try this burger for awhile and today was that day… The Big E Burger from Big E’s Teriyaki & Burgers in Rosemead. Served with Lettuce, Pickle, Onion, Tomato, Dressing, Avocado, Bacon, Cheese, and Teriyaki Sauce on a Toasted Bun. Hard to believe all this for only $5.99… It was a good burger and I can see why it’s popular. “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger!” ~ Ed “Good Burger” #teriyakiburger

Spice up your Sunday! Took a food order out to a customer’s car in the pouring rain today. They weren’t where they said they were parked and I got drenched. I even had to come back in and change the paper bag. Too bad there’s No Yelp for customers. They came in 15 minutes later, but didn’t complain about having to wait, so my guess is that they didn’t arrive when they called saying they were here. They’ll probably post something online that their order wasn’t brought out to their vehicle…SMH So, I needed an Al Pastor burrito with extra onions and cilantro on the side, with lemons, radishes, and verde salsa after work tonight. Well, at least this rainy weekend is over…

It’s Taco Tuesday! An Old Skool Taco from Taco Lita in Arcadia. Seasoned Ground Beef with Lettuce, Cheese, and a Tomato slice in a hard shell. They no longer have Lita Sauce, which is disappointing, but it’s not the end of the world…. It was a hot sauce similar to one at Baker’s Drive-In. “Tacos are a testament to the power of simple ingredients done right.” ~ unknown #hardtaco #tacotuesday #tacolita

In Honor of the Total Eclipse… I’m remembering the SQUID INK KARAAGE from the early days of @hatchyalater in DTLA. A two day brined fried chicken thighs with squid ink and served with house pickles, grilled lime, and black garlic ranch dip. 👍 HATCH is a modern Japanese Izakaya with great food and beverages in Downtown Los Angeles. It’s been awhile since I’ve last been, so another visit is in the works. I love their Yakitori too. Speaking of the Total Eclipse, I think the last one in 2017, we only saw a partial. The last one I saw was in Hawai’i when I was much much younger. I thought it was cool, but didn’t really understand it. Happy Total Eclipse Monday! #karaagechicken #karaage #izakaya

It’s Sandwich Saturday! The Sandwich from Raising Cane’s With 3 Chicken Tenders, Lettuce, and their special Cane Sauce on a Toasted Bun. What’s Cane Sauce? It’s a mayo/ketchup based sauce with a tang. As a combo, served with fries and a drink, but you can order just the sandwich. I’m not usually a fan of fried chicken sandwiches, but maybe it’s the Cane sauce that makes it so good. Happy Saturday #sandwichsaturday #chickensandwich

Today is International Carrot Day! Did You Know… Carrots were not originally orange colored? In fact, orange carrots were relatively late to the carrot-breeding game. Domesticated carrots came from the wild plant queen anne’s lace, which has white roots. Purple carrots were common even 1000 years ago in what is now Afghanistan, with yellow carrots to follow into the 1500s. Some indigenous folks in Afghanistan still use purple and white carrots to make a strong alcoholic beverage. The iconic orange carrots were created by selective breeding in Netherlands as a tribute to the ruling House of Orange. We can thank the Dutch for the orange color of carrots. Happy Thursday! #foodcalendar #carrots #foodholiday

Yellow Cap Coca-Cola Bottles??? During Passover, the Yellow-capped Coca-Cola signifies that the recipe is kosher for the Jewish holiday, which has dietary restrictions. Although the Red-capped Coca-Cola is considered kosher for most of the year, it contains corn syrup and doesn’t meet the dietary requirements. To make sure those observing Passover can still enjoy a Coke, the company swaps out the corn syrup for SUGAR. AND that’s why you’ll see Yellow-capped Coca-Cola bottles… #yellowcapcoke #cocacola

It’s Fish Sandwich Saturday! In the last 39 days, I had tried 7 fish sandwiches, 1 fried fish taco, and lastly, my favorite fish sandwich from Little Fish in Echo Park. Of the 7 fish sandwiches I’ve sampled, I’ve only ranked 6 of them, as McDonald’s has a double fish sandwich. They were all pretty good and most of them I would order again. Here’s my Fish Sandwich March Madness Rankings: 6. Popeye’s - Breading too crispy and fish too thin. 5. Wienerschnitzel - Tartar sauce too creamy. 4. Carl’s - needed pickles. 3. Wendy’s - solid fish sandwich. 2. McDonald’s - a true classic, period. 1. Burger King - Similar to their chicken sandwich, their “Big Fish Sandwich” was delicious and my favorite this year. I was surprised by the Fried Fish Taco from @deltaco, it was one of their better fried fish tacos. My favorite fish sandwich in Los Angeles is from @littlefish_echopark. A beer-battered pacific striped bass with American cheese, kewpie mayo, and dill pickles on a potato bun. Did you try any of these fish sandwiches??? Happy Sandwich Saturday! **NOTE: Since most of these restaurants are franchised or company-owned, your results may vary. #sandwichsaturday #fishsandwich #lent

Hot Dogs
Another Fish FryDay… The Sea Dog from Wienerschnitzel in Los Angeles. A fish filet that fits in a steamed hot dog bun with American cheese and tangy tartar sauce. The tartar sauce seemed to be mostly a creamy mayo, would’ve been nice to have some relish in it. But since fish filets aren’t their main focus, it worked. With the soft steamed bun and American cheese, it reminded me of the Filet-O-Fish at McDonald’s. Except for the tartar sauce being too creamy for me, it was a decent fish offering and I would order again. It was made to order for me, so it took a few minutes, no complaints from me. Have you tried the Sea Dog from Wienerschnitzel? #fishsandwich #fryday #lent

Another Fish FryDay! If you’ve been following me, I’ve tried a few of the fish sandwiches during Lent. Today, I’m trying… The Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich from @wendys. A wild caught Alaskan pollock fillet, crunchy panko breading, topped with creamy dill tartar sauce, pickles, lettuce, and American cheese. Of the five fish sandwiches I’ve tried so far, this was a good size, had pickles, breading not too thick or crispy, and came with American cheese (only other one is McDonald’s). The last time I had this sandwich, a couple of years ago, I wasn’t a fan and don’t remember why. Today, it was as Bourdain would say, didn’t suck. Similar to Carl’s, but it comes with pickles, so it will rank above them at number 3. See where I’ve been and my results on a previous post. I’ll see if I can visit one or two more places before the end of the week. Have a great week! #fishsandwich #wendys #lent #fishfryday

Today is National Chips and Dip Day! Rather than to go back to my childhood with Lay’s potato chips and Lipton Onion Soup Mix in sour cream, I thought about some of the other “chips and dip” I’ve had over the years. This one came to mind… Roasted Eggplant Nahm Prik from the closed @wehavenoodlesla. Served with root vegetable chips and crudité, it had a tom yum flavor and very good. The funny thing, after work today, I’ll probably pick up some Ruffles and make some Ranch dip and watch basketball. I don’t know why I would, my bracket is already busted for the most part… Happy Saturday! #nationalchipsanddipday #chipsanddip #foodcalendar #foodholiday
